In Pune we
began the ISKCON Youth Forum (IYF) in January 1996. Over a period of time the students
coming to the IYF are multiplying in geometric progression. Many students are really keen
to learn about spiritual life but they are unable to come to the temple because the
colleges are situated far away. To create a facility for the boys to practice Krishna
consciousness near their colleges we came up with the idea of making a Bhaktivedanta
Student Library (BSL).
Over a
period of time we had groups of devotee boys staying together in a room or flat nearby
their college. In their rooms they would conduct a morning program and weekly preaching
programs. There were two difficulties:
- The students would pass out and
- Every semester students would change their
rooms or flats.
Therefore we had no
permanent youth center near a college where the students could come and identify with the
IYF and render services.
The BSL acts as a mouthpiece of the IYF
headquarters at the temple. The BSL has the following facilities/activities:
- Thousands of tapes of Srila Prabhupada,
sannyasis and senior devotees.
- All the
books of Srila Prabhupada.
- Many
folding cubicles for the students to peacefully sit and study. When the cubicles are not
used by the students it can be folded and kept against the wall so it will occupy
negligible space.
- Every
cubicle will have a Walkman or tape recorder to hear the audiotapes.
Activities at the BSL
The same activities that are held at the
IYF headquarters will be also held at the B.S.L center :
- IYF meetings
- Weekly programs,
Bhagavad gita and Srimad Bhagavatam classes
- Morning and evening
programs
- Students can come at
any time of the day and render services, read books, chant etc.
- Inducting boys for
the YOGA RETREAT CAMPS to be held in the temple.
We also pay attention to the
studies of the devotee students ; so we recommend that they stay nearby the BSL so that
they can peacefully study when they are not rendering other services in the BSL. We
strongly recommend that the students pay attention to their studies and not become
irresponsible or lazy, giving Krishna consciousness as an excuse.
At
the present moment we have already made two working models of the BSL's in Pune near
the Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering,
and Singhad
college of Engineering , with all the above mentioned facilities

BSL FAQ
Bhaktivedanta Students Library (B.S.L.) is
series of mini IYF preaching extension centers.These are utilised by the sincere students
residing in near by colleges and areas.
Meant to create spiritual awareness amongst
youth and provide proper opportunity for advancement in Krishna Consciousness.
Students maintain high standards of sadhana
through strict schedules of Hearing / Chanting, backed up by regular weekly program
conducted by senior qualified preachers.
Over 500 cassettes & complete vedic
encyclopedia of Shrila Prabhupada.
Plenty of cubicles with sufficient
lighting & writing desks
Walkmans along with the earphones
for sound listening.
